How to Host a Crackpack 3 Server

Crackpack 3 is a chaotic, challenge-focused modpack on Forge 1.12.2 that packs in a huge number of mods without heavy curation, letting systems clash and combine into emergent gameplay. There's no quest line steering you, so hosting it well is mostly about giving the server enough headroom to boot cleanly and giving players a stable world to explore on their own terms.

1

Start with at least 7 GB of RAM. Crackpack 3 crams in a huge number of Forge 1.12.2 mods without heavy curation, so the server loads more class data and registries at boot than a tightly tuned pack — 7 GB is the floor to avoid out-of-memory crashes during world generation.

2

Import the modpack directly from its source instead of guessing from a client export. A clean server-side import avoids missing server mods, mismatched versions, and the broken recipes that come from hand-copying a client's mods folder.

3

Watch the console through the full first boot. With this many mods colliding without quest-based tuning, you'll see a long mod-loading phase and sometimes config conflicts between unrelated systems — let it finish loading completely and check for red error lines before assuming it's ready.

4

Only invite players once the server has gone through one full clean startup and the world has finished generating. Crackpack 3's emergent, unscripted interactions make a half-loaded world far more likely to produce broken chunks or missing block states than on a curated pack.

5

Take a backup before importing an existing world, updating Forge, or changing configs. Because Crackpack 3 has no quest line steering players, progress is almost entirely exploration and discovery — losing a world means losing everything a group has found on their own, with no guide to retrace the steps.

Use a cleaner Crackpack 3 path

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes Crackpack 3 much less annoying to launch correctly.
