How to Host a Monumental Experience Server (Forge 1.20.1)
Monumental Experience is an exploration and monument-hunting RPG pack on Forge 1.20.1, built around discovering massive structures, dungeons, and biome-specific monuments generated throughout the world. Its progression rewards exploring rather than automating, which means hosting it well is mostly about protecting world generation and the structures it produces — here's how to set it up properly.
Start with a 6 GB RAM floor. Monumental Experience generates large monuments, dungeons, and biome-specific structures across the world as players explore, so memory needs climb quickly once more chunks with custom structures are loaded — 6 GB is the realistic starting point, not a bare-minimum guess.
Import the modpack directly from its source instead of guessing from a client export. Hand-copied client folders routinely miss server-side structure and dungeon generation files, which quietly breaks the monument-hunting loop the pack is built around.
Watch the logs through the first boot until world generation finishes cleanly. Monumental Experience leans on custom structure generation for its monuments, so the first startup takes longer than a vanilla world while those features get placed — don't judge the server as broken just because it's still working.
Only invite players once that first boot has completed without errors. Letting people explore before structure generation has stabilized can mean monuments near spawn generate incompletely or not at all.
Take a backup before any world import, loader update, or config change. Since progress in this pack is tied to exploration and monument completion, a bad update can erase hours of discovered structures that can't be regenerated the same way twice.
Use a cleaner Monumental Experience path
CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes Monumental Experience much less annoying to launch correctly.
