How to Host a SkyFactory One Server (Forge 1.16.5 Guide)
SkyFactory One is a fan-made faithful remake of the original SkyFactory concept — a single oak tree on a block of dirt, floating in the void — rebuilt with a thoroughly modern modlist for Forge 1.16.5. It is not a continuation of the numbered SkyFactory 3, 4, or 5 series that CoalHost already covers, so treat its RAM and mod setup as its own thing rather than copying settings from those packs. Here's how to get it running cleanly before anyone sets foot on the island.
Start with 5 GB of RAM. That's SkyFactory One's own recommended floor for Forge 1.16.5, not a third-party guess — the modlist is modern even though the void-island concept is the classic SkyFactory 1 setup, so don't undersize it just because the starting island looks tiny.
Import the modpack directly rather than guessing from a client export. Use a clean server-side install of the official SkyFactory One files for 1.16.5 so the mod and config versions match what players will have installed — mismatched versions are the single most common cause of players connecting but immediately crashing or desyncing.
Watch the console through the first full boot. SkyFactory One's early game revolves around a single oak tree on a block of dirt floating in the void, so world generation is minimal — if the log stalls or errors instead of reaching a clean 'Done' with no mod-loading exceptions, fix that before anyone joins, since a broken boot on a void world usually means a mod or config conflict, not a terrain-gen hang.
Only invite players after that first boot finishes cleanly. Loading in a few seconds early to a still-initializing world is how islands end up missing starting blocks or players end up stuck in the void.
Take a backup before any world import, loader update, or config change. On a skyblock-style pack like SkyFactory One, losing the world means losing the entire progression chain built up from that one starting tree — there's no overworld fallback to fall back on.
Use a cleaner SkyFactory One path
CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes SkyFactory One much less annoying to launch correctly.
