How to Host a Star Technology Server (Forge 1.20.1 GregTech Skyblock)

Star Technology was one of the first GregTech CEu Modern skyblock packs built for Forge 1.20.1, bringing the legendary GregTech ore-processing and multi-block-machine mod to a modern skyblock format. Hosting it well comes down to giving it enough RAM from the start and letting the first boot finish cleanly before anyone logs in.

1

Start from at least 8 GB of RAM. That's the floor Star Technology's own pack recommendation is built around, and GregTech CEu's ore-processing chains and multi-block machines are heavy enough that going lower leaves no headroom once a few machine lines are running at once.

2

Import the actual modpack file rather than guessing from a client export. Upload the official Star Technology server pack directly so the Forge version, mod list, and GregTech CEu config all match what players installed locally — a mismatched config is a common source of machine recipes silently failing.

3

Watch the first boot all the way through. GregTech CEu registers a large number of multi-block structures and ore-gen layers on startup, and the skyblock world needs its custom dimension and starting island to generate cleanly before you consider the server ready.

4

Only invite players once that first boot has finished without errors in the console. Letting people join mid-generation on a GregTech skyblock pack risks players spawning before the starting island or machine recipes are fully registered.

5

Take a backup before importing a world, updating the Forge/GregTech CEu loader, or changing machine configs. Star Technology progression is built around long multi-block processing chains — losing one mid-run to an untested change costs hours, not minutes.

Use a cleaner Star Technology path

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes Star Technology much less annoying to launch correctly.
