How to Host an Abyssal Ascent Server

Abyssal Ascent sends players through eight vertically stacked dimensions, starting at the very bottom and climbing upward through immersive portals, each with its own ecosystem on Forge 1.20.1. That structure is unlike a skyblock pack's horizontal climb from one island, or a dimension-hopping RPG with no fixed order — here the vertical path is the whole point, so hosting needs to get the basics right before anyone starts the climb.

1

Start with 8 GB of RAM — that's the floor Abyssal Ascent's own pack recommendation sets for Forge 1.20.1, and it's the number to provision before you touch anything else.

2

Import the modpack directly from its official file instead of guessing from a client export — a clean server-pack import keeps all eight dimensions' custom biomes and generation settings intact from the first world save.

3

Watch the console through first boot: because each of the eight stacked dimensions generates its own ecosystem on first load, let the server sit until it reports a fully loaded world before assuming anything is fine.

4

Only invite players in after that first clean startup — joining mid-generation while dimensions are still being set up is the fastest way to end up with a broken ascent.

5

Take a backup before any world import, loader update, or config change — losing progress here means losing a run through all eight dimensions, not just one island or one hub.

Use a cleaner Abyssal Ascent path

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes Abyssal Ascent much less annoying to launch correctly.
