How to Host an Unturned Server (2026 Setup Guide)
Unturned is one of the lightest survival games to host, but the required GSLT token and the 24-slot browser cap trip up first-time hosts. Here's how to get an Unturned server running with Rocket plugins and Workshop maps from day one.
Get a Steam Game Server Login Token before launch — Unturned requires a GSLT before it accepts internet joins at all, and the server's own boot log will say so if it's missing. Create one free at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers for app 304930 and paste it at checkout.
Pick a RAM tier that matches your slot target, not just your map. Unturned's headless build is famously light: 2GB runs a small private circle, 4GB a full 24-slot public server with Rocket plugins, 6GB a busy 36-slot server.
Know the 24-slot browser rule before you go bigger. 24 is the soft cap for public listing, while the engine accepts up to 48 — direct-IP joins keep working above 24. Stay at 24 if browser visibility matters to you; go 36–48 by IP if you're running a big private community instead.
Add Workshop map ids to WorkshopDownloadConfig.json and the server downloads them on boot. Rocket (LDM) or OpenMod plugins drop into the server's Servers/Unturned folder through the panel's file manager.
Trust the full savedata backup rather than reinstalling by hand. The whole Servers/ tree — world saves, Commands.dat, Config.json, plugin directories — is archived together and restored with one click, so a bad plugin update is recoverable in minutes.
Use a cleaner Unturned path
