Palworld Server Settings Guide

Which settings actually matter? Every PalWorldSettings.ini option explained, with recommended values for casual, normal and hardcore groups.

CoalHost tip: All these settings are available as form fields in the CoalHost panel — no need to edit ini files manually.

XP & Progression

ExpRate
default: 1.0recommended: 1.5–2.0

Experience gain multiplier. Increase if your group doesn't have time to grind — 1.5x makes progression feel smooth without removing challenge.

PalCaptureRate
default: 1.0recommended: 2.0–3.0

Pal capture rate multiplier. Vanilla capture rates are frustrating. 2.0x makes catching Pals feel rewarding without trivializing it.

PalExpRate
default: 1.0recommended: 1.5

Pal XP gain multiplier. Increase alongside ExpRate to keep your Pals leveled with your character.

Base & Building

WorkSpeedRate
default: 1.0recommended: 2.0–3.0

Pal work speed at base. Increasing this is the biggest quality-of-life change you can make — Pals will produce resources and craft items much faster.

DropItemMaxNum
default: 3000recommended: 5000

Max items on the ground. Increase if you're running a larger server to prevent items despawning during base raids.

BaseCampMaxNum
default: 128recommended: 128

Max base camp buildings. Usually fine at default, but lower if you're having server performance issues.

Combat & Difficulty

DamagePlayerToPlayer
default: 1.0recommended: 0.5 for PvE / 1.0 for PvP

Player-to-player damage multiplier. For a friendly co-op server, reduce to 0.0 (no friendly fire) or 0.5 to make PvP less punishing.

DamagePlayerToPal
default: 1.0recommended: 1.0–2.0

Player damage to Pals. Leave at 1.0 for balanced PvE. Increase slightly if fighting alpha Pals feels too tanky.

EnemyDropItemRate
default: 1.0recommended: 2.0

Loot drop rate from enemies. Doubling this makes exploration and combat feel rewarding, especially early game.

Time & World

DayTimeSpeedRate
default: 1.0recommended: 0.5–1.0

Day length multiplier. Lower values make days longer. If your group is casual, 0.5x gives you more time to build before night.

NightTimeSpeedRate
default: 1.0recommended: 2.0–4.0

Night length multiplier. Speeding up nights (higher value = shorter nights) lets casual players avoid the frustrating dark period. 4.0 makes nights quick.

PalStomachDecreaceRate
default: 1.0recommended: 0.5

How fast Pals get hungry. Halving this means your Pals need feeding half as often — much less micromanagement.

Death & Respawn

DeathPenalty
default: Allrecommended: None for casual / Item for normal

What you drop on death: None, Item, ItemAndEquipment, or All. For a casual friends server, None removes frustrating death loops.

GuildPlayerMaxNum
default: 20recommended: 20

Max players per guild. Default is fine for most groups. Only increase if running a large community server.
