Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-05-17

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using CoalHost services ("Services"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

2. Service description

CoalHost provides game server hosting (Minecraft, Palworld, Terraria, Valheim, Project Zomboid and other supported games). You rent compute resources (RAM, CPU, storage) on a monthly subscription basis to run a private game server you control.

3. Account & age

You must be at least 16 years old, or have permission from a legal guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity on your account.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Services to:

  • Distribute malware, run botnets, mine cryptocurrency or perform any non-game-server workload.
  • Attack other systems (DDoS, port scanning, brute force).
  • Host content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, or sexually exploitative of minors.
  • Infringe copyrights, trademarks or other intellectual-property rights.
  • Resell capacity to third parties without written consent from CoalHost.

Game publisher rules are your responsibility. When you run a server you are bound by the EULA of the game you are running. For Minecraft specifically, the Mojang/Microsoft EULA forbids selling gameplay-affecting advantages (commonly called "pay-to-win"). If your in-game shop sells items, ranks or capabilities that materially affect gameplay for paying players, that violates Mojang's EULA — not ours — but we may suspend your server if a credible complaint is filed under our Acceptable Use clause.

Modpack & mod licenses. When you install a modpack on your CoalHost server, you are responsible for using it in line with its license and the licenses of the mods it contains. CoalHost fetches modpack files directly from the author-controlled APIs (Modrinth, CurseForge, Feed-the-Beast, ATLauncher) and does not redistribute them. Packs with All-Rights-Reserved or non-derivative licenses are installed unmodified and cannot be edited through CoalHost-provided tools. Modpacks containing the Pixelmon mod are blocked entirely under the Pixelmon EULA. For takedown requests see our IP claims policy.

Violation may result in immediate termination without refund.

5. Billing & cancellation

Servers are billed monthly via Stripe. Subscriptions auto-renew until canceled. You can cancel any time from the dashboard. Cancellation stops future billing but does not refund time already paid — your server stays active until the end of the current billing period, then is stopped and removed automatically.

EU/EEA consumers — 14-day right of withdrawal. Under EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83 (and the Finnish Consumer Protection Act, Kuluttajansuojalaki 6 luku), you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. CoalHost is a digital service that begins providing capacity immediately on payment. At checkout you are asked to confirm both (a) that you want the service to start immediately, and (b) that you understand this means you waive the 14-day right of withdrawal. By confirming this and paying, you agree that your right of withdrawal ends once the server has been provisioned.

Faulty service. The waiver above does not remove your statutory rights for a faulty service. If CoalHost fails to deliver the server you paid for, or it is materially defective (e.g. continuously offline through our fault), you are entitled to a price reduction or termination with refund under the Finnish Consumer Protection Act and equivalent EU rules. Contact [email protected] and we will resolve it.

RAM/plan changes take effect on the next billing cycle. We never charge a card outside the displayed monthly price without a separate confirmation step.

6. Backups & data

CoalHost runs automatic backups but does not guarantee 100 % data integrity. You are responsible for downloading your own backups regularly. We are not liable for lost worlds, configs or save files.

7. Service availability

We aim for high uptime but make no SLA guarantee. Scheduled maintenance, hardware failure, network issues or third-party outages may cause downtime. No service credits are provided for short outages.

8. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate your account for non-payment, abuse, or violation of these terms. You may terminate your account at any time from the billing portal.

9. Limitation of liability

The Services are provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, CoalHost is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost data, or service interruptions. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid CoalHost in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be notified by email or via the panel. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Finland, with jurisdiction in Helsinki, unless local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.

12. Testimonials & case studies

Customer testimonials, quotes and case studies on /customers represent real CoalHost customers. If you are cited as a testimonial we will always ask for your written consent first and show you the exact wording before anything goes live.

We may paraphrase or edit quotes lightly for clarity and length — for example removing filler words, fixing typos, or tightening a long anecdote into a shorter quote — but we will never change the meaning or invent claims you did not make. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing [email protected] and we will remove the citation from public surfaces promptly.

Quotes marked with a visible “Placeholder” badge on the site are illustrative drafts, not real customer statements. They exist so the layout can ship before the next round of opt-in testimonials lands.
